Seated Facet Rabbit

A seated dimensional rabbit with a tall chest, polygonal head, broad haunches, grounded forefeet, faceted tail and two long ridge-fold ears.

Materials

  • 180-220 gsm cardstock
  • Scissors or craft knife
  • Ruler and scoring tool
  • PVA glue
  • Tweezers

Finished size: 56 wide x 88 deep x approximately 155 high mm

  1. Print and score

Print at 100 percent; the ruler must measure 50 mm. Cut one of each ID. Score every dashed line before folding. Retain all 3 mm cap tabs and 4 mm band seam flaps. The two caps of each shell have identical side-elevation outlines.

  2. Close the seated body

B bands form the 32 mm wide body. Starting at the cap bottom-front corner, follow the 42 mm bottom edge, then the rear slopes and crown; band 2 continues the perimeter. Mountain-fold wall joints to match the cap corners. Fold the 3 mm edge tabs inward 90 degrees; glue one cap to these tabs, join band ends using their 4 mm flaps, then close the second cap. Keep the 42 x 32 mm bottom flat. Dry 10 minutes.

  3. Form broad haunches

Build A and C with the same cap-and-band method, each 12 mm wide, keeping the 27 mm bottom edges level. Glue A right cap and C left cap against the body sides; align bottoms at Z=0. Their front vertical edges sit 16 mm behind the body front-bottom edge. Apply glue only within the shared face area, roughly Y=0 to 20 and Z=5 to 22 mm. Outer sides finish 56 mm apart.

  4. Add the front feet

Assemble F and G as 12 mm wide wedge shells with 20 mm soles and 8 mm high heels. Glue their vertical heel faces against the lower front body face. Set foot centers 18 mm apart, leaving a 6 mm gap between them, and project toes 20 mm forward. Hold both soles and the body bottom on a flat table while glue dries 10 minutes.

  5. Build and mount the head

Close H as a 30 mm wide shell, with 3 mm inward cap tabs and 4 mm seam overlaps. Its 26 mm horizontal underside sits on the body crown at Z=60. Center left/right with 1 mm inset on each side; nose extends 18 mm ahead of the body front. Glue only the shared underside rectangle, Y=-10 to -4 mm across the 30 mm width. Allow 15 minutes to set before fitting ears.

  6. Fold and mount the ears

Valley-fold EL and ER down their long center scores to a 130 degree included V angle (each wing turns 25 degrees). Fold both 4 mm root tabs 90 degrees into the head-top plane. Glue roots onto the sloping top face between Y=-12 and 1 mm: center ridges 14 mm apart, at Y=-10 mm, with the longer EL on the left. Root tabs point rearward/down the slope. Ears rise normal to this roof plane, leaning rearward approximately 32 degrees from vertical. Hold until set.

  7. Fit the faceted tail

Build T as a 14 mm wide five-sided shell. Its short inward-facing edge from Y=28.4,Z=33 to Y=30.8,Z=23 matches the body rear slope exactly. Glue that 14 x 10.28 mm wall to the centered body rear, with lower corner 5 mm above the rear lower shoulder. The tail projects to Y=48 mm. Dry 10 minutes.

  8. Add eyes and let the rabbit set

Glue XL and XR flat to the head side caps, each centered 79 mm above the table and 27 mm forward of the body origin (7 mm ahead of its front-bottom edge). Press the complete eye backs. Let all joints cure on a flat surface; body, haunch bottoms and two foot soles form the support footprint. Physical balance and assembly remain to be tried with real cardstock.

Notes

The 3D model shows each piece in its finished, idealized shape; the exploded view only spreads the pieces apart. It is not a paper-physics simulation: curved shapes are forming guides, not exact physical folding or proof of developability, and intermediate fold shapes are not supplied.
