Passionflower

Ten pale tepals surround thirty narrow radial corona filaments and a raised five-anther, three-stigma crown on two crossed paper bridges.

Materials

  • 160-180 gsm paper for all parts
  • Fine scissors or craft knife and cutting mat
  • PVA glue
  • Ruler, protractor and blunt scoring tool
  • Tweezers

Finished size: Approximately 133 x 139 x 31 mm

  1. Prepare the receptacle

Print at 100 percent and confirm the 50 mm ruler. Cut B and lightly mark its center. Use the upward page direction as 0 degrees; measure all radial angles clockwise or counterclockwise consistently.

  2. Place ten tepals

Cut T01-T10. Score each line 8 mm from its root and lift its blade 8 degrees above the flat root. Glue each 8 mm-wide root to B from radius 10 to 17 mm. Place T01 toward 0 degrees, then T02-T10 at 36-degree intervals. Their crease centers lie at radius 18 mm. Dry flat.

  3. Add the filament corona

Cut the thirty 2 x 36 mm strips C01-C30 without narrowing them. Score at 6 mm and raise the remaining 30 mm by 15 degrees. Glue only the first 5 mm at radius 12-17 mm over the tepal roots. C01 aligns with T01; proceed at 12-degree intervals, alternating dark and light rays. Keep the center radius 11 mm clear for support feet.

  4. Fold and mount the crossed pedestal

Cut the two 6 x 56 mm bridges. Score at 5, 22, 34 and 51 mm. Fold into an inverted U: 5 mm outward foot, 17 mm vertical wall, 12 mm horizontal top, 17 mm wall, 5 mm outward foot. Fold each crease 90 degrees using the printed mountain/valley sequence. Center P1 on B with walls at y = -6 and +6 mm and feet extending outward to +/-11 mm. Glue feet to B. Turn P2 by 90 degrees and glue its feet at x = +/-6 to +/-11 mm. Its top crosses over P1; glue their central 6 x 6 mm overlap. Dry fully.

  5. Cap the pedestal

Center the 20 mm-diameter disk D on the crossed bridge tops, about 18 mm above B. Glue to both 6 x 12 mm top faces, pressing gently without crushing the walls. Allow to set.

  6. Raise five anther stalks

For A1-A5 score at 5 and 11 mm: retain a 5 mm flat foot, fold the next 6 mm upright by 90 degrees, then fold the final 12 mm outward to horizontal. Glue feet to D from radius 3 to 8 mm. Space A1-A5 every 72 degrees, with A1 aligned to T01. Each vertical section is at radius 8 mm; each horizontal arm ends at radius 20 mm and height about 24 mm. Dry before adding heads.

  7. Fit five pollen anthers

Glue AH1-AH5 onto the last 3 mm of their matching A stalks. Center each oval at radius 18.5 mm, long 10 mm axis tangential to the flower and short 5 mm axis radial. Keep the yellow faces horizontal and upward.

  8. Raise three stigma styles

For S1-S3 score at 4 and 16 mm: leave the first 4 mm flat, turn the next 12 mm vertically up, and turn the last 10 mm outward to horizontal. Glue feet from the center to radius 4 mm on D, overlapping just at their inner ends. Orient S1 at 36 degrees from T01, then S2 and S3 at 156 and 276 degrees. They rise above the five anthers to about 31 mm.

  9. Finish the three-lobed crown

Glue SH1-SH3, the 6 mm-diameter purple stigma heads, onto the last 3 mm of the corresponding styles. Center them at radius 12.5 mm. Keep them horizontal. Let all glue cure with B supported level; handle the finished flower by its receptacle, not its narrow rays or raised crown.

Notes

The 3D model shows each piece in its finished, idealized shape; the exploded view only spreads the pieces apart. It is not a paper-physics simulation: curved shapes are forming guides, not exact physical folding or proof of developability, and intermediate fold shapes are not supplied.
