Pansy with folded lower lip
Five unequal rounded petals, three cut-paper dark face patches and a raised, broad lower lip distinguish this pansy.
Materials
- 140-160 gsm violet and pale lilac paper for petals
- 80-100 gsm dark purple paper for F3-F5; yellow paper for C
- 160 gsm green paper for B
- Scissors, PVA glue, ruler, blunt scoring tool and protractor
Finished size: Approximately 70 x 79 x 13 mm

-
Print and cut ten pieces
Print at 100% actual size and check the 50 mm ruler. Cut B, P1-P5, F3-F5 and C once each. Transfer to the specified colored papers if needed. Dashed lines are scores, not cuts. Keep the glue outlines as placement guides.
-
Prepare the upper pair
Score P1 and P2 at the 6 mm neck edge, exactly 4 mm from the straight tab bottom. Valley-fold the lobes 8 degrees toward the colored front (172 degree opening), leaving the 6 x 4 mm tabs flat. Face-up B has its top at 12 o clock. Glue the tabs to the upper left and upper right outlined rectangles on B: neck midpoints are 4 mm left/right and 4 mm above center; axes lean 28 degrees outward from vertical. Hold until set.
-
Apply the cheek patches
While P3/P4 are flat, glue F3/F4 onto the matching lobed glue outlines on their fronts, coating the patch backs thinly. Each narrow patch tip is centered 3 mm beyond the neck; the long central point faces the rounded petal rim. Smooth flat and let dry. Score the necks 4 mm from the tab bottoms, then valley-fold each lobe 16 degrees toward the front (164 degree opening).
-
Mount the cheeks
Glue each entire 6 x 4 mm root tab to its matching side rectangle on B. Left/right neck midpoints are 6 mm left/right of center at center height. Petal axes point outward 5 degrees above horizontal. Keep the backing and tabs flat; the folded lobes rise toward the viewer. Let the four roots set before adding the lip.
-
Laminate and fold the lower lip
Glue F5 precisely within the matching lobed outline on flat P5, with its narrow tip 3 mm from the neck. Its center point ends 25 mm beyond the neck. Dry flat. Score through both sheets on the shared transverse dashed line 9 mm beyond the neck (13 mm from the straight tab bottom). Valley-fold the distal lobe 25 degrees toward the colored front, leaving a 155 degree opening. The tab and first 9 mm of petal remain flat; do not crease along the centerline.
-
Attach the lip and yellow eye
Point P5 straight down at 6 o clock. Glue its 6 x 4 mm tab to the bottom rectangle on B: neck midpoint is centered 5 mm below the backing center, tab extends upward toward the center. The transverse fold is therefore 14 mm below B center and the tip rises about 12.7 mm. Let set. Center the 8 mm yellow eye C on B center and glue its central 6 mm diameter back to the exposed root surfaces. Hold flat until bonded. Allow all glue to dry before lifting by the backing.
Notes
The 3D model shows each piece in its finished, idealized shape; the exploded view only spreads the pieces apart. It is not a paper-physics simulation: curved shapes are forming guides, not exact physical folding or proof of developability, and intermediate fold shapes are not supplied.
- Original polygon-sampled rounded profiles. Cut one of each of the 10 supplied pieces; face patches are actual templates. PDFs are line templates: use colored paper or color pieces before cutting.
- Every shaped surface is piecewise rigid with exact flat correspondence. All five root tabs are 6 x 4 mm and contact the backing at Z=0. Do not fold the root tabs away from the backing.
- The three face patches and eye have a 0.08 mm display separation to avoid coplanar flicker; physically glue them directly to the matching paper. Paper and glue thickness, springback and laminated crease stiffness are not simulated.
- A decorative face-up flower head, without a stem. Physical printing, cutting and assembly remain pending.
