Tripod Sitting Kangaroo

An upright seated kangaroo with oversized hind feet, angular haunches, long ground-reaching supporting tail, short forearms and an open folded-lip pouch.

  1. Print, cut and score

Print at 100 percent and measure the 50 mm ruler. Cut one of each ID; retain every 3 mm shell flap. Score all dashed folds. Edge numbers follow each cap perimeter from its first bottom-front corner; caps are Y/Z side elevations. Use 200-240 gsm cardstock.

  2. Build the two long feet

F and G are 16 mm wide, 66 mm long and 10 mm high. Glue edge 1 along each 66 mm sole, then edges 2, 3, 4 around each cap. Fold cap flaps inward 90 degrees, overlap neighboring walls by the 3 mm end flaps and close the second cap. Let dry 10 minutes flat. Place centers 46 mm apart, with 30 mm clear between inner edges.

  3. Build and seat the haunches

Close A and C using their five numbered walls and 3 mm cap/end flaps. Width is 16 mm. Glue each 28 x 16 mm horizontal bottom to its matching foot top, flush at the rear heel Y=18; thigh fronts are 38 mm behind toe tips. The haunch bottoms sit 10 mm above the table. Dry 15 minutes.

  4. Assemble the upright torso

Close B with its six numbered wall panels, 3 mm cap flaps folded inward 90 degrees and 3 mm wall seam overlaps. Match each wall angle to its cap edge. Torso width is 30 mm and height is 80 mm. Glue its side caps between the inner haunch faces over Y=-8 to 16, Z=22 to 34 mm. Torso bottom must stand 20 mm above the table. Hold square until set.

  5. Fit the supporting tail

Close T as an 18 mm wide triangular beam. Edge 1 slopes from Y=20,Z=20 to the rear ground edge Y=90,Z=0; edge 2 returns upward to Z=38. Glue the 18 x 18 mm root wall (edge 3) to the center of the torso rear wall, with root bottom flush with torso bottom. Keep both foot soles and the tail end edge on one flat table while drying 20 minutes. Rear tail contact is 72 mm behind heel ends; do not raise it.

  6. Make the open pouch

P has a 22 x 24 mm front. Fold its 8 mm bottom and two 8 mm sides back 90 degrees; fold the three 3 mm rear mounting tabs inward onto the torso front. Glue only those tabs to Y=-16, with pouch bottom 30 mm above the table and 4 mm inset from each torso side. The bottom and side cut edges butt together. Fold the 3 mm top lip inward 90 degrees: it leaves a real 5 mm deep open mouth. Do not glue the mouth shut.

  7. Close and mount the head

Close H as a 24 mm wide six-wall shell with 3 mm cap and wall joints. Glue its horizontal underside to the 14 mm deep torso crown at Z=100: their shared rectangle is Y=-8 to 6, X=-12 to 12. Center the head with 3 mm inset on each torso side and align the rear underside edge with the rear crown edge. The chin extends 20 mm ahead of the crown. Dry 15 minutes before adding ears.

  8. Mount the ears and forearms

Valley-fold ear center ridges to a 140 degree included angle. Fold both 3 mm ear root tabs onto the horizontal head crown at Z=124, roots 14 mm apart at Y=-6. Glue and hold. Fold each forearm 4 mm root tab 90 degrees onto the torso side cap near Y=-6,Z=78. Arms project 8 mm outward and reach forward/down 21/23 mm, ending above the pouch sides.

  9. Finish and cure

Glue eye diamonds to head side caps centered at Y=-22,Z=114. Let the complete model cure overnight with both 66 x 16 mm soles and the 18 mm tail-end contact level. These three contact regions form the intended tripod footprint; no stand or concealed ballast is used. Actual balance, joint strength and paper springback await physical assembly.

Notes

The 3D model shows each piece in its finished, idealized shape; the exploded view only spreads the pieces apart. It is not a paper-physics simulation: curved shapes are forming guides, not exact physical folding or proof of developability, and intermediate fold shapes are not supplied.
