Heart Gift Box

A shallow true heart-outline box with twin rounded lobes, a pointed foot, and a removable oversize heart lid.

Materials

  • 180-220 gsm cardstock, measured thickness 0.20-0.30 mm
  • Scissors or craft knife
  • PVA glue
  • Ruler and blunt scoring tool
  • Round pencil for pre-curving

Finished size: Approximately 71 x 65.5 x 27.5 mm closed; base wall height 24 mm; lid skirt 12 mm

Steps

  1. Print and cut six pieces

Print at 100 percent; measure the 50 mm ruler. Cut B0, B1, B2, L0, L1 and L2 including every tapered tooth and terminal lap. Keep the polygonal heart edges as printed.

  2. Prepare base bands

B1 and B2 each have 102.77 mm of wall run plus a 6 mm lap, and stand 24 mm high. Fold all 3.5 mm teeth inward 90 degrees. Curl the short-edge region around a pencil; keep the long diagonal region straight. Each band runs from the top cleft around one lobe to the bottom point.

  3. Join the base at cleft and point

Place B1 around the right half of B0 and B2 around the left half, viewed from above. At each endpoint turn the 6 mm lap to follow the next band and glue it INSIDE that band, stopping exactly at the lap fold line. Make sharp turns at the cleft and bottom point; do not shorten the measured runs. Let both seams set.

  4. Attach floor to integral teeth

Set the base ring on a flat surface with teeth pointing inward at the bottom. Apply a thin glue film to their upper faces, then lower B0 inside onto them. Match the cleft, point and each printed edge. Press with the ruler end a few tabs at a time and allow the floor and seams to dry fully.

  5. Form the larger lid skirt

L1 and L2 each have 106.63 mm wall run plus a 6 mm lap, with 12 mm skirt depth. Fold the 3.5 mm teeth inward 90 degrees. Form right and left halves around L0, joining the laps INSIDE at cleft and point exactly as for the base. Assemble separately from the base; keep glue off the skirt exterior.

  6. Glue roof and dry upside down

Lay L0 outer face down. Glue the skirt teeth onto its underside so the wall rises 12 mm from the roof while inverted. Align every edge and press until set. Dry separately, then turn the lid upright: its teeth now lie immediately under the roof.

  7. Fit the removable lid

After all glue is dry, align the two clefts and slide the lid down gently. Use about 9 mm skirt engagement, leaving approximately 3 mm above the base rim. The 1.2 mm outward offset allows for card thickness and laps. Leave the lid unglued and removable; this is a lightweight gift container. Actual fit remains to be confirmed by physical assembly.

Notes

The 3D model shows each piece in its finished, idealized shape; the exploded view only spreads the pieces apart. It is not a paper-physics simulation: curved shapes are forming guides, not exact physical folding or proof of developability, and intermediate fold shapes are not supplied.
