Wrapped Calla Lily

A single ivory spathe with a low front lip and tall back point wraps a capped yellow spadix above a green octagonal stem.

Materials

  • 120-160 gsm ivory paper
  • 160 gsm green and yellow paper
  • Scissors
  • Ruler and blunt scoring tool
  • PVA glue
  • Tweezers

Finished size: approximately 52 x 56 x 180 mm

Steps

CutValley foldMountain foldGlue area

  1. Form the stem

Print at 100%; check the 50 mm ruler. Cut ST (35 x 100 mm). Score each 4 mm panel boundary. Fold each dashed line inward through 45 degrees, with printing inside. Glue the final 3 mm flap under the first panel to make an octagonal tube, 100 mm long and 9.66 mm across flats. Let the seam dry.

  2. Form and attach the spadix

Cut SX (35 x 62 mm), score the 4 mm panels and fold inward through 45 degrees. Wrap it with a 3 mm glued lap. Before final drying, fit its lower 10 mm inside ST, adjusting only for paper thickness. Glue this 10 mm overlap; align the eight faces. The yellow top must be 152 mm above the stem bottom. Leave the upper 52 mm yellow.

  3. Close the yellow tip

Cut CP with all eight tapered tabs. Fold the 4 mm tabs down 90 degrees away from the visible yellow top. Apply glue to their outer faces and tuck them inside the top of SX. The octagonal cap spans 9.66 mm across flats. Hold with tweezers until set.

  4. Shape the wrapped spathe

Cut SP including its eight tapered throat tabs and the narrow outer-edge flap. Score all marked lines. With printing inside the cup, fold the long dashed radial lines inward by about 42 degrees from flat. Bring the two short front rim edges together. Fold the 3 mm flap under the opposite front edge and glue its full length (about 15 mm). Keep the high point at the back and low lip at the front. Dry before mounting; do not stretch or round the planar panels.

  5. Attach flower to its support

Fold each 10 mm throat tab down and outward through about 22 degrees from its flat continuation, so it points along the stem. Slide SP over the capped spadix. Seat its 4 mm throat edges exactly at the green/yellow junction, 100 mm above the stem bottom. Glue each tab flat to the outside of the corresponding green stem face over the band 90-100 mm. Pinch gently and let dry fully. The low front lip is about 125 mm high; yellow tip 152 mm; back point 180 mm. Check all eight tabs and front seam before displaying.

Notes

The 3D model shows each piece in its finished, idealized shape; the exploded view only spreads the pieces apart. It is not a paper-physics simulation: curved shapes are forming guides, not exact physical folding or proof of developability, and intermediate fold shapes are not supplied.
