Upright Five-lobed Bellflower

Original faceted campanula/platycodon flower head: five tall joined throat walls, five sharply flared pointed lobes, a closed pentagonal base and an attached five-sepal calyx.

Materials

  • 150-180 gsm violet paper for B1-B5
  • 150-180 gsm green paper for C and S1-S5
  • Scissors or craft knife
  • Scoring tool and ruler
  • PVA glue and tweezers

Finished size: 77.8 x 81.8 x 42.0 mm

Steps

  1. Cut and score eleven pieces

Print at 100 percent and confirm the 50 mm ruler. Cut B1-B5, C and S1-S5 once each. Keep every integral tab. Score only marked fold lines; do not score triangulation diagonals.

  2. Set the five lobe flares

With the colored bell exterior facing you, valley-fold each pointed lobe outward by 49.51 degrees from its wall. The hinge is 27.038 mm long; keep each triangular lobe planar, not curled. Mountain-fold each right-side seam tab inward by 67.89 degrees from flat.

  3. Join the pentagonal throat

Join B1 to B2, B2 to B3, B3 to B4, B4 to B5, then B5 to B1. Each right seam tab goes behind the next wall left edge, with a 3 mm perpendicular overlap and 1.5 mm tip setbacks. Align both endpoints of the 34.540 mm edges; the five wall edges meet without gaps. Let each seam tack before closing the last. Leave the wide star-shaped upper mouth open.

  4. Close the lower throat

Raise all five C tabs 71.81 degrees from the flat pentagon toward the flower interior. Insert C from below with green side down. Match its 11.756 mm edges to the five lower wall edges, and glue its 4 mm tabs inside the walls. Press from the open mouth with tweezers. Keep C horizontal and let dry before adding the calyx.

  5. Fold the calyx points

Valley-fold each S blade outward by 40.62 degrees from its rectangular foot. Each foot is 6 x 6 mm, and each hinge is 6 mm long. Leave the pointed blade flat. Apply a thin film of glue to the reverse of the marked foot only.

  6. Attach the five-sepal calyx

Center S1 on the outside of B1, S2 on B2, and so on. Place the bottom edge of each foot 5 mm up the wall face from its lower edge; the hinge is 11 mm up the same face. Glue all 6 x 6 mm of each foot to its wall. Points flare away from the throat and remain below the purple rim. Dry upright on the pentagonal base; this is a flower-head ornament, not a stemmed bouquet.

Notes

The 3D model shows each piece in its finished, idealized shape; the exploded view only spreads the pieces apart. It is not a paper-physics simulation: curved shapes are forming guides, not exact physical folding or proof of developability, and intermediate fold shapes are not supplied.
